Why Won't the Oven in My Wolf Gas Range Light?

What fails on it
- Igniter wearing out The clicking runs on longer than it used to before the whoosh of lighting, or it clicks and never catches. Wolf expects the oven to light within 40 seconds.
- Safety lock-out After two failed attempts the oven gives up and its indicator light flashes slowly. Turning the knob off and back on clears it once; lock-outs that keep coming back are a fault.
- Flame lost mid-bake It lights, then goes out. Wolf warns that starting the convection fan during preheat can shut the oven off, so the fan waits until preheat has finished.
- Burner or gas feed Blocked burner ports, or gas not reaching the burner, give a weak or patchy flame. That work is quoted after the diagnosis; the gas supply itself is for a gas fitter.
- Control not calling for heat If the oven indicator never comes on when a temperature is set, the control side is not asking for heat, which points away from the igniter.

What differs from a dual fuel oven
A dual fuel range has an electric oven. A GR range burns gas in the oven as well, which brings in parts an electric oven never has: the igniter, the flame-sensing ignition board and the oven’s gas valve. Wolf’s guide gives the GR oven an infrared broiler, and a convection fan in the 30- and 36-inch ovens; the smaller oven of a 48-inch range has neither.
What to check yourself, and where to stop
A Bellevue homeowner can safely do three things before calling. Check the breaker if the oven light and fan do nothing. Make sure the knob is turned fully to a temperature, not resting between settings. If the indicator is flashing, turn the knob off and on once. That is the whole list: the oven floor, the panels and the gas connections stay closed.
GR and the older R Series
GR ranges have been in production since 2013. Before them came the R Series, built from 2002 to 2014, whose plate hides under the left-hand burner pan rather than at the bottom of the control panel. The ovens in both are repaired here, and parts for an R range are checked against the serial number before anything is promised.

- Some clicking is. Wolf's GR guidance says the igniter keeps clicking until the ignition board senses flame, a whoosh may follow, and lighting within 40 seconds is expected. Clicking that has grown longer over the months, or an oven that only catches on its second try, is the early sign worth booking.
- Can I light the oven by hand during a power cut?
- No. The oven burner is lit by an electric igniter and watched by an ignition board, so neither will work while the power is out, and there is nothing on the oven for a match to reach. Leave the knob off until the supply is back, then start the oven normally and give it the usual time to catch.
- What should I do if I smell gas near the range?
